Abington THON crushes canning record by $2K

Penn State Abington THON kicked off fundraising for the 2013 IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon with a record-smashing weekend of canning that raised more than $8,300, beating the previous record by more than $2,000. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world and engages more than 15,000 Penn State students across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Its goal is to conquer pediatric cancer by providing emotional and financial support to children, families, researchers and staff at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital through the Four Diamonds Fund.

Abington 'brings the world to our campus'

Cherry blossom trees, an icon of the friendship between Japan and the United States, also are a fitting symbol for a relationship that bloomed decades ago and whose roots grow stronger each year between Penn State Abington and Seinan Gakuin University in Japan. This friendship culminated in an English immersion course that recently brought 12 Seinan students halfway around the world to Abington for two weeks of learning and international exchange.

Penn State Abington's THONers may still be nursing sore feet from the 46-hour Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, but they also are still celebrating their role in a record year of fundraising for pediatric cancer patients.Abington THON raised $41,695.96, nearly $19,000 more than its previous record in 2011.

Students train for Penn State Abington business case competition title

You could almost hear the opening trumpet notes of the Rocky theme emanating from eight German college students who visited Philadelphia last week. It could have been related to the "title fight" they were about to wage in the Penn State Abington International Business Case Competition, but more likely it was connected to the item at the top of their bucket list, scaling the iconic steps at the Philadelphia Art Museum.

Penn State Abington students raise over $21,000 for THON

A contingent of over 30 Penn State Abington students made their way to University Park, Pa., on Feb. 19, to take part in the largest student run philanthropy in the world--the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON), which raises money to fight the battle of childhood cancer. The four dancers from Abington remained on their feet for all 46 hours, joining approximately 700 other dancers from Penn State at the Bryce Jordon Center.The students of Penn State Abington raised over $21,000 "For The Kids." THON 2010 raised over $7.8 million -- approximately $400,000 more than last year's efforts.

Penn State Abington celebrates International Education Week

Penn State Abington is celebrating the 10th annual International Education Week (IEW) on campus, Monday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 13. IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education highlighting the benefits of international education and exchange. The theme for IEW 2009 is "Creating a Vision for a Better Tomorrow."
